The horn of plenty mushroom – also known as black trumpet or ‘trumpette de la mort’ – owes its name to its deep black colour and funnel-shaped cap. Contrary to what the name suggests, however, the horn of plenty is an extremely healthy and nutritious mushroom: it contains considerable amounts of protein and fibre!
Freshly prepared, this winter mushroom tastes delicious with fish dishes or in spring rolls. Dried, the black trumpet is often used as a spice to add flavour to game dishes.
